Computer Does Not Hibernate
This problem usually occurs on computers with one of the following Windows XP editions:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
- Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
On these computers when you try to hibernate your computer, you may receive the following error message:
Insufficient System Resources Exist to Complete the API.
Once this error is displayed, you may not be able to use the hibernate feature until you reboot your PC. This error usually occurs on computers with 1 GB or more RAM. The error is caused when the Kernel power manager of your system is unable to acquire a block of contiguous memory to prepare your PC to hibernate. The size of this contiguous memory required by Kernel power manager is proportional to the number of memory regions being utilized by your PC. This is the reason why, on a PC with large RAM, a lot more contiguous physical memory regions are required to prepare your PC to hibernate. However, the availability if these memory regions vary according to the device drivers, services, and programs being used by your PC. Therefore, the hibernate feature fails to function occasionally. And, you are forced to restart your system, before you can use this feature again.
To resolve this error download the hotfix for the problem from the Microsoft Web site and install it on your Windows XP PC.
