You are Prompted to Change Password At Every Log On

The following message may be displayed, when you attempt to log on to your Windows XP Professional computer:

Your password will expire in number of days. Do you want to change it now?

Cause of the Error

You encounter this message if your password is configured to expire after a certain number of days.

Resolution Steps

To resolve this error, you need to change the password configuration of your local account to prevent it from expiring. You can do this by performing the following steps:

  1. Select No when the error message is displayed.
  2. Next, open Start menu, select Run, type compmgmt.msc, and then click the OK button.
  3. Double-click Local Users and Groups, and then open the Users folder.
  4. Here, double-click the user account to be modified, and then select Password never expires.
  5. Click the OK button and exit the Computer Management dialog box.
