Unable to Connect Device

The following are some of the common reasons that might prevent your mobile device from connecting to your system:

If you have Windows Live OneCare installed on your computer, the utility may block device connectivity. In this case, perform the following steps to change the settings of your Windows Live OneCare to enable your device to connect:

  1. Double-click on the Windows Live OneCare application system tray icon to display its window.
  2. On the left pane, select the Change OneCare Settings option and accept prompts displayed to open the settings screen.
  3. On the Firewall tab and click on the Firewall Connection Tool button to display the Windows Live OneCare Firewall Protection Tool dialog box.
  4. Ensure that ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center – synchronize my mobile devices with my computer check box is selected and then select the OK button to close the tool.
  5. Now, select the Advanced Settings button to display the Windows Live OneCare FirewallAdvanced Settings dialog box.
  6. On the Ports and Protocols tab and click on the Add button.
  7. Here, create a new port with following specifications:
  8. Name: Windows Mobile Device Center
  9. TCP Port range: 5721
  10. For Connections dropdown list: Inbound [local ports]
  11. Scope: Local network (subnet)
  12. Click on the OK button to close the current dialog box and then exit the Windows Live OneCare application.

The drive for the device has not been installed properly. This problem occurs if the driver installation for your mobile has not completed successfully. To resolve this problem, perform the steps listed below:

  1. Connect the device to your Windows Vista system.
  2. Open Start menu and then select Start Search.
  3. Run devmgmt.msc to display the Device Manager window.
  4. Search for M icrosoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under Network Adaptors. If this option is not there move on to the next step, otherwise, right-click on M icrosoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter and then select Uninstall.
  5. Now, search forMicrosoft USB Sync under Mobile Devices . If this option is not there move on to the next step, otherwise, right-click on Microsoft USB Sync and then select Uninstall.
  6. Disconnect and then reconnect your mobile device. When you do this, your select will detect your device and then reinstall the device driver.

After the driver is installed, Windows Mobile Device Center will start on your computer.
