Unable to Complete Windows Live OneCare installation
The following error message may display on the screen, when you attempt to install Windows Live OneCare on your computer:
Urgent: Connect to the internet to finish installing OneCare – OneCare needs to connect to the internet to complete the installation
The following error message may display, when you select Complete Installation :
OneCare cannot complete the installation at this time because of a problem connecting to the service.
Cause of the Errors
These errors may occur due to one or both of the following conditions:
- loadTOCNode(1, 'cause'); Existence of damaged Windows System Files on the system.
- Connectivity issues due to third-party security software such as firewalls, Internet accelerator software, and proxy servers.
Resolution Steps
Step 1: Uninstall all third-party internet security programs and firewalls from the system.
- Open Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs link, or open Start menu, select Run, type appwiz.cpl , and then press Enter.
- In the Currently installed programs list, search for third-party firewalls other security programs, including parental control programs.
- Select the program and then select the Change/Remove or Remove button.
- Reboot your system and then start the Windows Live OneCare installation again.
Step 2: Repair the cryptographic service files.
- If you are on Windows XP or Windows Vista computer, open the following Website and download theFixCompleteInst.exe tool.

- Run this tool to fix the cryptographic service files.
Note : In an enterprise environment—office premises where computer is behind a firewall and/or a proxy server—you must try to perform this step outside this environment.
Step 2: Reset Internet Explorer as your default Web browser.
On Windows XP:
- Open Control Panel, select Network and Internet Connections, and then select Internet Options.
- On the Programs tab, in the Default web browser section, click the Make default button.
- Select the Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser check box.
- Click OK to apply your changes and exit the dialog box.
On Windows Vista:
- Open Start menu, and then in the Start Search box, type Internet.
- Select Internet Option listed under Programs.
- On the Programs tab, in the Default web browser section, click the Make default button.
- Select the Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser check box.
- Click OK to apply your changes and exit the dialog box.
Step 3: Disable Proxy Settings.
On Windows XP:
- Open Control Panel, select Network and Internet Connections, and then select Internet Options.
- On the Connections tab, in the Local Area Network (LAN) settings section, click the LAN settings button.
- Select the Automatically detect settings check box and clear all other check boxes.
- Click OK to apply your changes and exit the dialog box.
On Windows Vista:
- Open Start menu, and then in the Start Search box, type Internet.
- Select Internet Option listed under Programs.
- On the Connections tab, in the Local Area Network (LAN) settings section, click the LAN settings button.
- Select the Automatically detect settings check box and clear all other check boxes.
- Click OK to apply your changes and exit the dialog box.
Step 4: Ensure that your system date and time is correct.
- Point to the time displayed in the extreme bottom-right corner of the screen and then check the bubble displayed to ensure that date and time are correctly set.
- If they are incorrect, double-click on time to display the Date and Time Properties dialog box.
- Here, change the settings to display the correct date and time.
Step 5: Repair Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installation on your Windows XP computer .
- Open Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs link, or open Start menu, select Run, type appwiz.cpl , and then press Enter.
- In the Currently installed programs list, search for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
- Select it and then click the Change/Remove button.
- Next, follow the screen instructions to repair the installation.
After you perform all of the above steps, run the installation of Windows Live OneCare on your system again.
