Windows Protection Error
This error is usually displayed when your system is loading or unloading a Virtual Device Driver (VxD). Usually, the VxD that caused the error is mentioned in the error message. If it is not given, it is generally not possible detect the culprit VxD.
Cause of the Error
These Windows Protection error messages are generated when one or more of the following conditions are true:
- There is a conflict between a real-mode driver and a protected-mode driver.
- Windows Registry is damaged.
- Either Win.com file or Command.com file are damaged or virus infected.
- An already initialized protected-mode driver is loaded from the System.ini file.
- Conflicts in physical input/output (I/O) address or a random access memory (RAM) address.
- Incorrect CMOS settings for one or more built-in peripheral devices, such as hard disk, cache, and CPU timing.
- BIOS-related problems with the computer’s Plug and Play feature.
- Malfunctioning cache or memory.
- Problems with computer's motherboard.
- Microsoft Office 97 installed on a Windows computer that is also using the Novell Client 32 software.
