How to Use the Office 2007 Alert ID Feature

Many times, when we receive an error message, we are left wondering how to search for its resolution method. To make this task easy for you, Microsoft has incorporated the Alert ID feature in Microsoft Office 2007. This feature helps by providing you with the information that you need to perform a search in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

The Alert ID feature works by adding a unique alert number to the warning or error message in the dialog boxes displayed on your computer. To display this alert ID, you need to press the CTRL+SHIFT+I keys when a error is displayed.

When you press the key combination, the Alert ID is displayed in the lower-right corner of the warning or error dialog box. Now, when you try to perform a search for your warning or error message, add this unique number to the list of search text you use. Doing this, helps you make your search more accurate. To perform the search for an error message, you can open the Microsoft Knowledge Base Web site by clicking on the link displayed below:

Note: The Alert ID features works only after Office 2007 is installed on your PC. It does not work for warnings and errors displayed during the setup process.
