Error When Trying to Launch an Office 2007 Program Within a Terminal Server Client Session

An error message similar to the one given below maybe displayed on your screen, when a Microsoft 2007 Office program is launched within a Terminal Server client session:

This copy of Microsoft Office Program cannot be used on Terminal Server. Please contact your local authorized Microsoft retailer for more information.

After the error is displayed, the Office 2007 program may quit unexpectedly.

Cause of the Error

This error occurs when one of the following Office 2007 programs or Office 2007 suit is installed on your Terminal Server.

  • Retail edition
  • Trial edition
  • Pre-installed edition (PIPC)
  • OEM edition

The error occurs because these Office 2007 editions are NOT supported by Terminal Server.

Resolution Steps

To resolve the issue, perform the following tasks:

  1. If an unsupported Office 2007 version is installed on Office 2007, uninstall it.
  2. Now, install an Office 2007 program or suite that uses a Volume License Key and does not need License Activation on your Terminal Server.
